About the domain

Château Corbin has a 13 hectare vineyard in the commune of Saint Emilion, very close to the Pomerol appellation. It’s origins can be traced to a property that, in the 15th century, was part of a fief that belonged to Edward, Prince of Wales, the son of Edward III of England, known as the Black Prince.

Acquired in 1924 by the great-grandparents of the current owners, Château Corbin’s management is now female, with oenologist Annabelle Cruse-Bardinet heading the team.

The vines grow in a soil rich in ancient sand. The terroir also contains areas of clay, resulting in wines that have both power and finesse. It is this dual terroir that enables Corbin to produce wines of tremendous complexity.

They are cultivated using traditional techniques. Yields at the château are intentionally reduced to enhance the concentration that is essential to the production of a grand vin. Only the grapes from the best plots and the oldest vines are used to make Château Corbin.

About the cuvée
Harvested manually, the grapes are vinified in temperature-controlled vats. The entire harvest is then aged for 16 to 18 months in rigorously selected French oak barrels. This fine wine has a garnet colour, medium body, and is characterized by aromas of fruit, with roasted and woody notes. It is dense and yet light, with well-integrated tannins.

Chateau Corbin is a French wine producer located in Saint Emilion. The Grand Cru Classe estate is one of the oldest in the region with a history dating back to the 15th century. Chateau Corbin produces a classic Right Bank blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc from the estate’s best grapes.


 

Grape Variety

A Bordeaux Blend, at its most basic, is any combination of those grape varieties typically used to make the red wines of Bordeaux. The phrase, which seems to have originated with British wine merchants in the 19th Century, relates as much to wines made from the blend as to the grape variety combination itself.

Red Bordeaux Blends are known for their powerful structure and deep flavors. Dark fruits and berries such as plum and blackcurrant are commonly used to describe the flavors of red Bordeaux, although there is an unlimited range of terms that have been ascribed to them. Tannins tend to be relatively high in these wines, giving them a firm structure.

St.Emilion

St.Emilion is an appellation d’origine contrôlée (AOC) for wine in the Bordeaux wine region of France, where it is situated in the Libourne subregion on the right bank of the Dordogne. Saint-Émilion is registered as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.

The wines of Saint-Émilion are typically blended from different grape varieties, the three main ones being Merlot (60% of the blend), Cabernet Franc (nearly 30%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (around 10%).
